PlazAmericas design Competition

Houston, Texas

The City of Houston and the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects sponsored a competition to reimagine the existing Sharpstown/PlazAmericas Mall site now in partial disuse. Connecting to a proposed METRO rail line, the attempt was to enliven the surrounding the decaying neighborhood. This submission focused on deconstructing the Mall into a series of streets and block by block scaled retail and multifamily buildings. Other districts included hotels, conference and institutional blocks. Later deconstructions with the owners focused on creating more walkable retail blocks.
