The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio desired to reach into the Rio Grande Valley and create a health system for training doctors living there or matriculating in the UT System from the Valley. Though numerous facilities were envisioned, an administration building was required first. Being the first project of many, and UT’s initial entrée into the market, the building had to have the context of the area, be substantial in presence, but approachable by the community center. The facility contains labs, faculty and administrative offices, a medical library and a community room for lectures.
